Let me start by saying I’m not a Roman Reigns hater. Having said that I think now is the time for Roman Reigns to embrace the dark side. His personality just isn’t befitting that of a baby face.
Reigns comes across as arrogant and smug. There is no way he will get a full on babyface reaction using his current gimmick.
Roman Reigns' war with Rusev did more harm than good
For some strange reason the WWE made Roman Reigns look like the bad guy during his feud with Rusev. When Reigns shoved Lana into the wedding cake he came across like a complete heel.
In fact I had a lot of sympathy for Rusev. Here was a guy trying to protect his wife’s honor. If I didn’t already know the characters I would have assumed that Rusev was the good guy.
The longer the feud raged on the more unlikeable Reigns became. Once he captured the United States Championship he has had an air of arrogance about him. His smug smile alone is enough to elicit a negative response from fans. Add to that his cheesy jokes and you have the perfect bad guy.
So why won't the WWE capitalise on the reactions?
Roman Reigns is mostly cheered by the children and the female fans. He’s a good looking and muscular guy. However that is why a large portion of the fan base can’t stand him. Reigns’ look, demeanor and overall personality just screams ‘bad guy.
WWE creative needs to make him the most hated guy in the company. He already gets booed out of most buildings he enters. The WWE should capitalize on that.
Roman Reigns corny material is getting old fast. His jokes are never funny. If anything they cause more animosity with him and the fans.
The creative team should just let him portray a bad guy who says very little. Reigns is at his best when he’s a snarling, angry beast.
How should the WWE turn him?
There is no better time to turn Roman Reigns heel than at Survivor Series. He could get eliminated and turn against his team. Also Monday Night Raw is lacking credible heels at the moment. Making Roman Reigns hated by nearly the entire fan base is the smart move.
